Day 1: A calm 8 km journey with approximately 200 m of ascent and 400 m of descent, unfolding through forest paths, old stone walkways, and beautifully preserved post towns, at a relaxed pace of around four hours. It is an ideal introduction to the quiet beauty and historical atmosphere of the Nakasendo.
Day 2: Explore Atera Valley and Kakizore Valley, regarded as two of the most beautiful valleys in Japan. Their emerald-green waters and untouched waterfalls are so striking that they make one forget the ordinary world. Atera offers a gentle, tranquil stream, while Kakizore reveals a more powerful and dynamic flow — each with its own distinct character. Both can be enjoyed as light hikes of around three hours, allowing you to immerse yourself in nature at a relaxed pace. The clarity of the water here is exceptional, even by Japanese standards. In summer, the valleys offer a refreshing escape into cool mountain air. And in winter? — that is something to ask Ryo directly. Afterward, stroll through the historic town of Kiso-Fukushima and quietly reflect on the atmosphere of the Edo period. This day brings together nature, contrast, and cultural depth in a beautifully balanced way.
Day 3: This private walk from Yabuhara to Kiso-Hirasawa via Narai follows one of the most insightful sections of the Nakasendo trail in Japan. Guided by Ryo Yoshimura, the experience brings together nature, craftsmanship, and tradition in a way that feels both immersive and unhurried. It is a meaningful conclusion to the journey through the Kiso Valley.
